I think we have all been there, snogged a boy at the school disco and the song that was playing becomes forever ingrained in your heart (Nothing Else Matters – Metallica) or been serenaded by the love of your life (I’ll make love to you – Boyz to Men) but most milestones in your life will have a song attached.

What Pop Music has changed my life

I have been surrounded by music all my life having been forced to go to piano lessons from the age of 5. It is without doubt that music has influenced me over the years, from who I hung out with to what I wore.

My earliest recollection of pop music artists was Adam and the Ants, whilst only being knee high to a grasshopper, I was heavily influenced by the style and imagery portrayed on the television by this iconic man. I would sneak into my mum’s room and cover my face in red stripes thinking I could dance along to Price Charming and look the part.  Looking back now I realise I looked like a 7 year old who has had a fight with a lipstick and lost, but at the time I thought I was proper trendy! Where to find Popular Music

The place to find popular music has dramatically changed over recent years with the digital revolution bringing popular music into every front room, car and earphone.

In the 80s and early nineties, popular music was the remit of Radio 1 and Top of the Pops on a Thursday evening. Top of the Pops would give the run down of the singles chart and who was number one for the week was always the hot topic of conversation on the school bus for a Friday morning.  It was half an hour of flashing lights, bad hair styles and even worse live singing, but it bought pop music into our homes and gave us pop stars to look up to.
